To: All members of the Walton Barrow Board of REALTORS®
From: Robbie Thomas – President
I wanted to update you on a change in the day-to-day administration of the Board. Our Association Executive has resigned, and we have entered into a shared services agreement with the NE Atlanta Metro Association to administer the operations. They have also been administering the operations of the I-85N Board for a number of years.
There will be a few hiccups during this transition however by sharing services we can operate in a more efficient manner.
Let me be very clear in that this is not another Association taking over our Board. We will remain an independent operation and they will be directed by us with the management of the Board.

Legal Lines: Substantial Property Damage
Question: I have a buyer that was under contract when a pipe burst in the kitchen and flooded the kitchen, the garage, under the kitchen, and the living room. Water has caved in the ceiling to the garage and seeped in the walls. My buyer does not want to purchase the home anymore, so we terminated the contract. The GAR Purchase and Sales agreement states that the buyer is allowed to terminate the contact without penalty if there is damage to the home. The seller is saying that it is not substantial damage and he does not agree that the buyer should get her earnest money back. Please give me your opinion on this situation.

Local REALTORS® Advocate for Homeownership and Private Property Rights
(Monroe, GA) – On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, several REALTORS® from the Walton-Barrow Board of REALTORS® gathered alongside hundreds of their fellow Georgia REALTORS® (GAR) for a day of advocacy and education at the Georgia Capitol. The annual GAR Legislative Day draws more than 850 REALTORS® from across the state to Atlanta, and gives real estate professionals the opportunity to meet with their elected officials face-to-face to discuss how proposed legislation could potentially affect real estate and in, turn the community.
Local REALTORS® who made the journey to Atlanta for the GAR Legislative Day include Terri Braswell, Amy Bortman, Mike Dickson, Neal Jackson, Debbie Jones, Anna Mills, Lorrie Pelletier, Angela Pierce, Sandra Preston, Sandra Shurling, Pat Stone, and AE, Donna Peters. The group met with their elected officials, including State Representative Tom Kirby, State Representative Bruce Williamson and Senator Bill Cowsert and discussed issues that concern them, with topics including eminent domain and HOA fees.
“We had a productive meeting with our legislators while we stressed the importance of private property rights and discussed upcoming legislation that will affect our trade and consumers throughout our state,” said President Amy Bortman.
GAR hosted a luncheon for all Legislative Day attendees at the Georgia Freight Depot, in which Governor Nathan Deal was the featured speaker. Additional speakers included House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, and Senate President Pro Tem David Shafer.
